若進口壓力有波動,譬如壓力瞬時升高,則出口壓力也隨之升高。作用在膜片上的推力增大,膜片上移,向上壓縮彈簧,從膜片組件中間的溢流孔有瞬時溢流。并靠復位彈簧及氣壓力作用,使閥桿上移,閥門開度減小,節流作用增大,使出口壓力回降,直至達到新的平衡為止。重新平衡后的出口壓力又基本上恢復至原值。
如進口壓力不變,輸出流量變化,使出口壓力發生波動(增高或降低)時,依靠溢流孔的溢流作用和膜片上力的平衡作用推動閥桿,仍能起穩壓作用。當輸出流量為零時,出口氣壓力通過反饋管進入膜片下腔,推動膜片上移,復位彈簧力推動閥桿上移,閥芯關閉,保持出口氣壓力一定。當輸出流量很大時,高速流使反饋管處靜壓下降,即膜片下腔壓力下降,閥門開度加大,仍能保持膜片上的力平衡。
